ASN Study Group

Aims & Scope

The Study Group was launched in 2020 to provide a space for collective reflection and learning among postgraduate students, political activists, researchers, and academic faculty on fundamental issues in political economy. The Study Group has an annual thematic focus and is held every three weeks from March to November. The method of historical materialism guides this collective reflection with an interest in advancing contemporary thought and practice in the Marxist traditions of the Third World. Current debates and publications within the Agrarian South Network and the journal Agrarian South are also discussed and assessed.

The language medium is English. The basic readings and some complementary texts are provided in electronic form. The sessions entail a brief presentation of readings by designated participants, followed by discussion. The collaborating organizations of this initiative include SMAIAS, CARES, and Coletivo Novo Bandung. Participation in the study group is by invitation, recommendation, and a public call for expression of interest, comprising a total of 40 places. Inter-continental and gender balance is observed.
